He'd had to kill him.  You'd think that after so many shootings it would not bother him anymore, but it seemed like each successive time it got harder and harder for him to get over.  This had been a young man, just a kid really, who'd gotten drunk and was out to take on Black Jack Hanna and his reputation.  Jack didn't even know him.  It was in a bar in Abilene, and Jack was playing poker.  The kid had drawn on him, but the booze had made him fumble his gun.  There were none quicker than Jack Hanna, and almost before he knew what he was doing, Jack blew the kid's head off.   And Black Jack Hanna was on the run again.

Concept

CONCEPT

"Preacher Man" is the story of Black Jack Hanna, a gunslinger in the wild west who is wanted for murder all across the West.  He hides out in a small mining town in California, where he is mistaken for a preacher sent from back East.  (The town's previous pastor was gunned down by a drunken cowboy.)  Trying to successfully carry off the masquerade, Jack finds the Lord and becomes a shepherd and guardian angel of his flock.  But along the way, Jack must deal with the consequences and characters of his past life.
